What's Happening Saturday, Aug. 28

Lewis & Clark celebration � 8 a.m. � Hike to Spirit Mound from the Vermillion River. $30 registration, please contact the W.H. Over Museum at 605-677-5228.

10 a.m. and 2 p.m. � Bus trips to Spirit Mound.

Noon � Craft tables around museum; Indian tacos.

1 p.m. � Story telling and pow wow starts, grand entry, Dr. Wayne Evans, announcer and Jerome Kills Small, arena director.

2 p.m. � Intertribal songs.

3 p.m. � Special dances.

4 p.m � Potato dance and intertribal dancing.

5 p.m. to 7 p.m. � Buffalo feed on the W.H. Over grounds.

7 p.m. to dusk � Intertribal and Friendship dancing; Rabbit dances and Round dances by Jerome and Nancy.

Sunday, Aug. 29

8 a.m. � Welcome to the sun, time of prayer and giving thanks.

Noon � Indian tacos and opening of craft tables at W.H. Over Museum.

1 p.m. � Pow Wow grand entry and traditional formalities.

2 p.m. � Intertribal songs and dances. Bus trips to Spirit Mound.

3 p.m. � Flute music.

4 p.m. � Honoring songs.

5 p.m. � Thanksgiving and farewells.

6 p.m. � Formal closing.

5 to 7 p.m. � Traditional soup supper.

9 a.m. � MFA Graduation Exhibition � Mario Kiran. Reception Sept. 1, 1 to 7 p.m., Main Gallery, University of South Dakota.

1 p.m. � USD soccer vs. Cordia-St. Paul, at St. Paul, MN.

Monday, Aug. 30

Registration Day at USD.

9 a.m. � Division of Health Sciences Chair Meeting, Freedom Forum Board Room, USD.

10:45 a.m. � New student convocation. In a continuing tradition, all faculty are invited to dress in regalia and welcome the new class of first years to USD. Featured speakers will include President James Abbott and Belbas-Larson award winners.

4 to 6 p.m. � Fall play auditions at Vermillion High School.

Tuesday, Aug. 31

Fall semester day and evening classes begin at USD.

4 to 6 p.m. � Fall play auditions at Vermillion High School.

4 p.m. � VHS varsity volleyball triangular at Lennox.

7 p.m. � USD women's volleyball vs. Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO.

12 p.m. � Vermillion Rotary Club weekly meeting, Freedom Forum conference room, Al Neuharth Media Center.

5 p.m. � Open house, Newman Center. Free burgers, brats and home-made treats.

8:30 a.m. � Tuition and fee payment/loan and refund disbursement, Rushmore Rooms, USD.

Wednesday, Sept. 1

7 p.m. � Citizens City Hall Advisory Committee meeting at Vermillion City Hall. Committee will review needs assessment survey. Meeting is open to the public.

Thursday, Sept. 2

4 p.m. � USD soccer vs. Wayne State College at the DakotaDome Soccer Field, Vermillion.

7 p.m. � USD football vs. Peru State at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.

Friday, Sept. 3

The University of South Dakota women's volleyball team will play in the Grand Valley State Volleyball Tournament in Allendale, MI.

12:05 p.m. � Brown Bag Program at the National Music Museum. Lewis & Clark: A Musical Voyage of Discovery, presented by Paul and Win Grace, Columbia, MO. Fiddle, mandolin, guitar, harmonica, accordion, autoharp, seated clogging, and voice.

Saturday, Sept. 4 �

The University of South Dakota men's and women's cross country team will host the South Dakota Invitational at the USD Cross Country Course in Vermillion.

The University of South Dakota women's volleyball team will play in the Grand Valley State Volleyball Tournament in Allendale, MI.
