Cross country runners compete at USD Invite by Jim Prosser Twelve schools were represented at the USD cross country invitational meet at Don Baker Memorial Course Saturday, Sept. 4, They included teams from Nebraska and Minnesota in addition to a South Dakota contingent.
There was competition in both girls' and boys' varsity and JV divisions. No team points were reported.
For the girls varsity division, the first runner across the finish line was Yankton's Ramsey Kavan with a time 14:09.15. There were 48 runners and Tanager finishers were: Katarina Gombocz (9); Emily Renner (26); Rebecca Girlinghouse (35); Annie Carlson (41); and Sarah Plate (46) in the 4000 meter run.
The girls JV 3K run had 67 participants. Tanager placers were: Morgan Brooks (7); Sarah Day (39); Amber Zalud (59); Julie Renner (61);Kate Renner (62); and Steffani Donahoe (65).
The 5000 meter run for varsity boys had 59 runners. The winner of the race was Dyedi Barnabas from Omaha South (16:38.08)
Tanager placers were: Chad Teigen � 25; Andrew Manning � 30; Casey Carlson � 37; Chris Teigen � 44; and CJ Harden � 58.
Seventy nine runners were entered in the boys JV 4K division. The big schools from Omaha and Sioux Falls dominated in all the divisions and Vermillion had Mike Preszler, 33, as our best finisher. JR Moore was 40; DJ Donahoe (50); Brode Stone (62); Raleigh Tiahart (64).
Michael Dendinger (73), Dan Day (76), Tevin Boehrns (78), and Sam Robinson (79), were "tailenders" but each finished the race.
