Donohoe wins USD freshman survival kit Patrick Donohoe, a 2004 graduate of Rapid City Stevens High School, is the winner of the first ever "Ultimate Freshman Survival Kit" from The University of South Dakota.
Incoming freshmen students were given the opportunity to enter the contest during campus visits last year. The drawing was held during freshmen orientation events on Aug. 30.
The prize package consists of a brand new laptop computer, an Xbox game system, a digital camera and an MP3 music player. The prizes are worth an estimated $1,500.
Donohoe, who is majoring in psychology, will put the prize package to good use by making his new home in Mickelson Hall a little more comfortable with the additional hardware. As a freshman, Donohoe was able to move into the residence halls on Saturday, Aug. 28.
"I love it at the U! I can't believe I won," Donohoe exclaimed when he arrived to pick up his winnings. "Wait until my sister hears about this!"
Donohoe's sister Kaitlin is in her junior year at USD. Donohoe also has a brother, Connor, who is a Southwest Middle School eighth-grade student in Rapid City. His parents are Mike and Laurie Donohoe.
