Eagles fall to Cardinals The Irene/Wakonda Eagles journeyed to Dell Rapids to take on the St. Mary Cardinals. The Eagles lost by a score of 43-8.
The Cardinals lost no time in showing their intentions as they scored twice in the first quarter. The Eagles once again found difficulty in stopping the opposing team's runs as DRSM racked up 328 rushing yards. On the other side of the ball the Eagles struggled once again to sustain a series of offensive plays.
DRSM was able to tack on two TDs at the close of the second period to take a 30-0 halftime advantage.
Irene/Wakonda showed sparks at times, but the offense and defense still sputtered and never got going full speed. Senior Brandon Parvin scored the lone TD for the Eagles with a five yard plunge in the last quarter. Quarterback Alex Nielson ran in the two-point conversion to give the Eagles their last points.
Adam Polley finished the night with 70-yards rushing. Parvin added 56 yards on the ground. Nielsen was 9 of 20 in passing for 81 yards. Wingback Shaun Hessman snagged three passes for 16 yards.
Defensively, Robert Hauger had 8 1/2 tackles from his safety position. Parvin had an interception and 4 1/2 tackles.
DRSM outgained the Eagles 374 yards of offense to 247 yards.
Irene/Wakonda travels to Ethan this week to play Emery/Ethan in a 2 p.m. game on Sept. 24.
