Oral history workshop coming to USD Sept. 28 An oral history workshop is being presented Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the I. D. Weeks Library at The University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
The free workshop, sponsored by the South Dakota State Historical Society Archives and the South Dakota Records Advisory Board, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dr. Herbert Hoover, director and coordinator of the South Dakota Oral History Center at USD since 1977, is the presenter. He has personally completed more than 750 taped interviews. Dr. Hoover will provide methods and tips for conducting successful oral history interviews.
"Attendees to the conference will help the state achieve its 2010 Initiative goal of developing South Dakota's quality of life as the best in America," said Jay D. Vogt, director of the State Historical Society. "By learning to record this history, people's knowledge of their culture will be enhanced."
