people who registered before Aug. 24, and $25 after that date. Proceeds will benefit the W.H. Over Museum of Nature and History in Vermillion.
"We decided to go ahead and do the race this year in honor of the Lewis and Clark bicentennial, and although the race course doesn't follow the exact route that they took, it is close to it," said Judy Clark, a member of the museum's board of directors. "We want to honor that, and we want to connect the museum with Spirit Mound and let people know this is an important historical and natural site. With the new prairie that's being restored, it's quite a natural site now."
Clark said the race wouldn't be possible without the help of several generous sponsors in Vermillion, including Clay County Abstract & Title Company, Dr. Charles and Barb Yelverton, Vermillion Medical Clinic, the University of South Dakota President's Office, Jim and Colette Abbott, Hy-Vee Food Store, and Jones' Food Store.
Members of a sub-committee that has been instrumental in organizing the race are Colette Abbott, Barb Yelverton and Kelly Smith-Keller.
