SDPB tackles USD football Saturday Its the red and white versus the crimson and black as The University of South Dakota Coyotes take on the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks at Al F. Caniglia Field in Omaha.
South Dakota Public Broadcasting will air the gridiron match-up live on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m on SDPB Television.
The Coyotes, led by first-year head coach Ed Meierkort, have
opened the 2004 season with a 3-0 mark. It is the first time USD has gone 3-0 since the 1996 team opened with a 5-0 record. USD is tied for the top of the NCC with North Dakota and St. Cloud State. Nebraska-Omaha, led by head coach Pat Behrns, has won two of its first three games. The Mavericks' only loss was to nationally ranked Indiana (PA).
The two teams have a long history, with the Coyotes owning a 23-20-1 overall series advantage, although the Mavericks have won eight straight games between the two rivals. The Mavericks, who are ranked in the AFCA top 20, were a preseason selection to finish second in the NCC. The Coyotes were selected by the coaches to finish fourth.
