Sergeant Floyd chapter plans buffalo burger picnic Lewis and Clark Expedition enthusiasts, whether they are members of the Sgt. Floyd Tri-State Chapter or not, are invited to a buffalo burger picnic on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Lodge at the Lewis and Clark State Park in Onawa, IA.
Beginning at noon, chapter members and guests will continue the commemoration of the Expedition's bicentennial. Although the new Interpretive Center at the park is still under construction (now about 80 percent complete), attendees will get a sneak peek at the facility. The Keelboat will be available for excursions throughout the afternoon, and starting at 12:30 p.m. there will be a lunch available (for a slight fee) consisting of buffalo burgers, hamburgers, or pork burgers; chips; fruit salad; dessert and beverage.
During a short business meeting the chapter will conduct its annual election of officers. In case of rain the festivities will proceed inside the lodge with a video viewing of the Aug. 20 reenactment of the burial of Sgt. Floyd which took place last month at the Sgt. Floyd Monument in Sioux City.
Sgt. Floyd Tri-State Chapter members include Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota scholars and history enthusiasts who enjoy sharing the Lewis and Clark story. New members are always welcome.
