Tanager middle school football defeats Lennox by Jim Prosser The seventh- and eighth- grade footballers faced Lennox in a dual game format played at the VHS field on Saturday Sept. 11. Both games ended with a win for the Vermillion teams, but they weren't easy!
The seventh-graders scored on their first possession, then counted on the defense to contain the opposition (which they did) to garner the 6-0 hard fought victory. Here are some statistics for the game:

Seventh grade Offense � Kylen Freidel, 24 yds, 1 carry, 2 for 2 passing; Nick Mart, 30 yds, 1 carry; Tanner Mart, 35 yds, 8 carries, 1 TD. Jordan Robinson � 5 yds/2 carries, 5 yd pass reception.
Defense: Garrett Smith-Keller � 12 tackles, 5 QB sacks, 1 pass brk-up (also pass reception for 9 yds on offense); Tanner Mart � 12 Ts, 2 QB sacks; Nick Mart � 6 Ts, 1 pass brk-up; Garrit Heine � 4 Ts, fumble recovery; and Jason Rassmusen recorded 3 Ts and an interception. You can see that the defense did a stellar job when I tell you that 15 members of the team were in on stops.
The eight graders were faced with a different situation, scoring on two consecutive running plays and a short pass play, building a 20-0 halftime lead.
The Lennox team responded with a dominating defense and effective offense to control the second half, and scored 16 points. It took some heroic stands late in the game to salvage the 20-16 win for Vermillion.

Offensively: Michael Oberle had 65 yards on 6 runs, 1 TD; while Andrew Eidem gained 77 yds on 7 carries, 1 TD; Greg Anderson scored a TD on a 18 yard pass from Tony Thomas.
Eidem lead the defense, too � 13 tackles, 1 QB sack; Tyler Steele recorded 10 Ts; Anderson had 5 Ts, 2 QB sacks; Oberle claimed 3 Ts, a fumble recovery, and a blocked punt.
