The Tanagers got off to a fast start 15 minutes into the first half when midfielder Kelsey Bowman converted a free kick from 22 yards, and the team never looked back en-route to a 5-1 victory.

The Tanagers conceded a late goal when a Spearfish player headed home a corner kick. The Tanagers outshot the Spartans by a margin of 14-8. Goalkeeper Sarah Christopherson was credited with four saves on the day.
On Sept. 9, the Tanagers lost a hard-fought game to Class AA Sioux Falls Washington by a score of 3-0.
Coach Jeff Pederson said, "We had our chances to score in the Washington game, missing an open net and being off the post twice. Credit Sarah Christopherson with keeping it close, as she put in the finest shot-stopping performance in that game that the Tanager team has ever witnessed."
Injuries have begun to set in for the Tanagers, as senior defender Jamie Bernard was able to play only 15 minutes in the Spearfish game and senior midfielder Jackie Thomas had her time limited by an ankle injury.
