USD volleyball gets by Winona State 3-1 The South Dakota women's volleyball team (4-6) won their only match of the first day of the North Central Region Challenge in Aberdeen, on Sept. 10. The Coyotes, who ended a two-match losing streak, defeated the Winona State Warriors (4-6), 3-1 (30-27, 30-21, 28-30, 30-25) on the campus of Northern State.
USD featured five players with 10 or more kills. Senior Laura Marske (Spencer, IA) led the way with 16 on 27 attempts, for a hitting percentage of .407. Lindsey Soukup (Lincoln, NE) recorded her fifth double-double of the season, as she had 14 kills in 25 attempts and 18 digs. Kinsley Powers (Rapid City) had 11 kills, while Angela Prochaska (Waterbury, NE) and Alexis Wissing-Terwillinger (Lincoln, NE) each added 10.
Senior setter Liz Selzer (Papillion, NE) recorded 51 assists for South Dakota. The Coyotes hit .200 for the match compared to .138 for Winona State. Winona State was led by 13 kills from Kiersten Arendt. Lisa Dobie had 43 assists, while Sara Goldstrand led the way in digs with 16.
USD also had 13 blocks to five for the Warriors, who had a negative hitting percentage in the fourth set.
