USD volleyball goes 1-1 at Northern Extreme Classic The University of South Dakota volleyball team finished up their visit to the Betty Engelsted Sioux Center on the North Dakota campus by defeating Minnesota-Crookston in their first match of the day, 3-0 (30-28, 30-24, 30-25). It was the first loss of the season for Minnesota-Crookston.
The Coyotes blew out Minnesota-Crookston, thanks in part to a season-high 12 blocks and a .274 hitting percentage.
USD (2-2) had seven aces and just five receiving errors in that match.
In the second match of the day, the Coyotes dropped to Chadron State (NE), 17-15.
USD took the first two sets from Chadron State 30-23 and 32-30, before they dropped the next two 26-30 and 18-30. Then came the decisive fifth set, which went to extra play before the Coyotes fell, 17-15.
In the Chadron State match, USD had four player's record more than 10 kills. Junior Kristen Miller led the way with 21, while Lindsey Soukup had 16. Laura Markse added 14, while Angela Prochaska had 12.
Liz Selzer hit the 60 assist mark in the loss.
USD was hampered by 31 hitting errors to 22 for Chadron.
Miller, who was the lone USD selection on the All-Tournament team, finished with 35 kills on the day. The Papillion, NE, native led all players in the
four-match classic with 52 total kills.
Selzer, was second in the tournament in assists per game with 11.64, she had 163.
