VHS boys' golf team tops Milbank 308-319 by Jim Prosser The VHS boys' golf team scored its first win at The Bluffs last Tuesday, Aug. 24 as the Tanagers entertained Milbank in an18-hole dual meet.
There was a mixup in scheduling and one other team didn't show. Only varsity scores were computed.
Final team results were: Vermillion � 312; Milbank � 343.
Scores for Vermillion varsity individuals were: Ryan Powell 75; Jordaan Boots 77;Broc Gauer 78; Alex Schaack 78; Brad Schaack 80. Also competing were Chris Moen and Charles Odsen, each at 82; Mikal Ustad 84, Aaron Steele 86, and Darren Martin 87.
Coach Kirk Hogen has a more experienced team to start the season.
"We are counting on seniors Chris Moen and Brad Schaack for our leadership," he said. "We have as much depth as we've had for quite some time."
Others who have varsity experience are freshmen Jordan Boots, Broc Gauer, and Alex Schaack, and sophomore Ryan Powell.
"Senior Charles Odsen, junior Darren Martin, and freshman Mikal Odson will also be thrown into the mix and the five selected players to represent Vermillion will have a challenge every week against the level of competition for one of those spots," Hogen continued.
Other members of the Tanager squad are seventh graders Eric Ustad and Aaron Steele; eighth graders Anthony Nelson, Tyler Vlassman, and Dan Davies.
