VHS volleyball team meets disaster against Bon Homme by Jim Prosser The VHS varsity volleyball team played Bon Homme to a four-game match with scores of 25-19, 19-25, 21-25 and 15-25 for a 3-1 loss on Tuesday, Sept. 7 in the Bon Homme County high school gym.
In the JV preliminary the junior varsity, coached by Lori Jerred, won 2-1 by 21-25, 26-24, 15-3. She wanted to recognize the following players for the match: Digs � Ariel Hoffman, 8; Krista Froke and Brittni Stewart � 7 kills each; Kristina Blythe had 14 service points, 5 aces; Paige Prosser had 3 blocks; and Kinsey Weydert and Annie Roche shared 10 set assists.
Head coach Lenni Billberg was not too dissatisfied with the varsity's early performance, but, "while we started very strong, the girls couldn't hold together to finish the match. Passing really hurt our game as we were aced 17 times, that really left us a lot to overcome," she said. "Our blockers made great adjustments, when we asked, and our offense was well distributed."
In the match � Melissa Olson registered 6 blocks, 18 points on serve, 14 attacks, 6 kills, and 2 digs. Annie Carlson had 23 attacks, 9 kills, 17 passes, 4 digs, 17 sv pts, and 4 aces. Michelle Olson had 14 P, 22 A, 7 K, 12 p-o-s, and 4 digs; Ellen Odson recorded 28 set assists, 11 p-o-s, and 6 digs. Britt Weydert had 7 D, 14 sv pts, 3 aces; Brittnay Babb recorded 8 P, 14 A, 7 K, 2 D; Heather Walker had 7 P, 18 A, 3 K, 5 assists, 6 sv pts.
With the loss, the team has a current 3-1 season record.
