Wakonda business has new owners, new name by Ally Eckert The popular stop after games has changed ownership for the third time. The local gas station and convenience store, Derby's One Stop, was bought by Jon and Tricia White.
The Whites began their ownership on May 29. They haven't decided to make any major changes yet. But locals will have to get used to calling this hangout TJ's Corner Store.
"It felt like a good business opportunity," said Tricia White.
The new owners decided to keep most of the employees, retaining familiarity in the store. But Jon White is no stranger to Wakonda. In fact, he is a former resident.
The convenience store has been open for about 17 years now. It was built by Carl and Donna Gratzfeld and was first opened as the CD Stop.
Darren Shenk then bought it and named it Derby's One Stop about seven years ago.
The Whites hope to stay owners for a very long time to come. They thank the town of Wakonda for welcoming them and supporting the business.
