Wakonda football team is ready by Amber Skjonsberg With last football season ending with a record of 3-6, the Wakonda/Irene Eagles are getting pumped up and ready to beat last year's record.
The Eagles have been lifting weights, running, and keeping busy throughout the summer to make sure they kept in shape for this year's football season. And now that it's here all their hard work will be put to the test.
Although the Wakonda/Irene Eagles lost 10 players, they still have nine returning letter winners. Among them are Wakonda students Alex Nelson, Brandon Parvin, Nick Peterson, Allen Alsdorf, Shaun Hessman, Adam Polley and Andy Peterson.
With the return of Mr. Muth's coaching skills, the tight ends, linebackers, and the special teams (kickers) will be on the line and ready to play their positions with full confidence.
Along with great expectation from the seniors the new freshmen have a lot to measure up to as well. Last season's freshmen Adam Polley and Andy Peterson showed the coaches that size and experience don't always matter.
They are two of the nine returning letter winners of this year.
Today, Friday, Sept. 3, the Eagles will show off their football skills against the Viborg Vikings, with the kickoff starting at 7 p.m. in Viborg.
