Cross country teams run in Alcester meet

Cross country teams run in Alcester meet by Jim Prosser Fourteen schools were represented at the cross country invitational meet in Alcester, Monday, Sept. 20 with competition in both boys' and girls' divisions.

The top five teams in the boys division were Lennox, 14, Wakonda, 42, Vermillion, 43, Canton, 48 and West Sioux, 59.

Carlie Bahnson (West Central) won the 5K run, and Wakonda's Robert Gregoire was second. The best Tanager place was fifth for Chad Teigen.

Other runners from Vermillion were: Andrew Manning, 19th, Casey Carlson, 22nd, Chris Teigen, 34th, and Michael Kressler, 49th. Also participating was C.J. Harden, 51st. There were 72 runners in this division.

For the girls, Joni Strom, Beresford, finished first, and Katarina Gombocz, Vermillion) was second, which led the Tanagers to a first place in the team standings with 22 points. West Sioux, 23, Beresford, 27, West Central, 41, and Canton 42, were the other top five placers.

Other Tanager placers were: Emily Renner, seventh, then Rebecca Girlinghouse at 17th, and Sarah Plate, 26th. There were 54 participants in this division.
