JV football team loses 21-7 to Lennox Orioles by Jim Prosser The Tanager JV football team was outscored by Lennox's JV 21-6 as a close halftime score of 7-6 demonstrated the defensive intensity of both teams.
While the defense for Lennox continued through the whole game, allowing only one running play in the third quarter, the Tanagers couldn't prevent a couple big plays, which led to the Orioles' second half TDs.
The Vermillion offense was somewhat stifled but did accumulate 147 total yards. Ryan Scheidel was 2 for 10 in passing for 17 total yards. Andrew Pier gained 49 yards on 7 carries, and the TD; Canka Wilch had the longest run of 14 yards as he was credited with gaining 46 yards on 7 carries; and Sam Laprath had 31 yards gained on 8 carries.
The defense was kept real busy in the second half and there were some good stops by: Chris Taylor (11 tackles); Ryan Scheidel, Bobby Dykstra, and Myles Runyan (6 Ts each); Dan Mollet recorded 5 Ts; Ryan Gilbertson, Chris Merrigan, and Jerrod Freidel each had 4 Ts. Merrigan recorded a QB sack, and Gilbertson broke up a pass. C.J. Haakinson recovered a fumble.
