No signs in right-of-way The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) reminds political candidates and parties they should not place campaign signs in state highway rights-of-way.
"We're seeing a bit more activity than usual for this election," says Mike Durick, SDDOT's director of operations. "We're asking candidates and parties to pay attention to where the signs are going and make sure they are outside of the rights-of-way in locations that will not create safety hazards or distraction to the motorist."
The use of rights-of-way is reserved for highway signage. The SDDOT asks candidates and parties to relocate any signs that are currently in the state's rights-of-way.
