Tanager cross country teams compete in South Sioux City by Jim Prosser Twenty-three teams � nine Class A and 14 Class B schools � were represented at the invitational cross country meet in South Sioux City on Sept. 30 with competition in both boys' and girls' divisions and varsity, JV, ninth- and tenth-grades, and middle school sections.
Vermillion ran in the B Class, and only the girls fielded a complete team. Norfolk Catholic was first and the Tanagers second.
Individual place results: Katarina Gombocz, second; Emily Renner, sixth; Rebecca Girlinghouse, 12th; Morgan Brooks, 23rd; Sarah Plate, 37th; and Kate Dehner, 44th. There were 47 entrants in the race.
Only seven runners were entered in the JV division. Sarah Day placed first with a time of 18:04.85. Amber Zalud was fourth and Kate Renner, fifth.
The middle school race had 20 girls entered. Steffani Donahoe at 15th and Julie Renner, at 16th, were the VMS entrants.
None of the boys' teams had the necessary members to be assigned a place in the standings, but the following individuals and their places were:
Varsity � Chad Teigen, fourth; A.J. Manning, 14th; Casey Carlson, 22nd; Chris Teigen, 28th; and C.J. Harden, 37th. There were 49 varsity runners.
In the JV race � J.R. Moore, fourth; D.J. Donahoe, fifth; Raleigh Tiahrt, ninth; and Dan Day, 11th. There were 14 JV runners.
In the ninth- and tenth-grade race � Brady Stone, 22nd; Jeff Donnelly, 24th; and Tony Hubert, 32nd. There were 34 runners.
Middle school � Sam Robinson, 12th; Tevin Boehms, 13th; and Michael Dendinger, 18th. There were 22 middle school runners.
