Tanager softball team claims third place by Jim Prosser The Tanager softball team won two and lost two in the South Dakota High School Fastpitch League Class B Tournament played Oct. 2 and 3.
The first game was a time restricted contest with McCook Central. The final score was a 7-0 forfeit when McCook had to leave after four innings with a close score.
Jenny Bye became the winning pitcher and some significant stats were: Alicia Brown � 3 walks, 2 runs; Brittany Bye � a triple, 1 run; Alexa Walker � 1 run; Heather Walker � 1 RBI; and Brittany Campbell � 1 for 2 batting, 1 RBI.
The Tanagers came away with a 14-4 victory over Yankton B with Brittny Bye and Jenny Bye sharing the pitching chores. Vermillion took an early 6-4 lead after the third, then coasted to the 10-run rule by scoring seven runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth which ended the game.
Nine individuals scored: Chelsea Houska � 2 runs, Heather Walker � 2 runs, 1 homer, 4 RBIs; Alexa Walker, Ariel Hofman, Anna Isaacson, Jenny Bye, and Mary Ann Bierle � 1 run each; Brittany Campbell � 1 for 2, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Brittany Bye � 3 runs on 2 for 3 batting, and 1 RBI.
The third game was a 12-3 loss to eventual tournament chap Lennox. Jenny Bye was the losing pitcher and the runs were scored by Isaacson, Campbell, and Heather Walker.
The final game was a heartbreaking 12-11 loss as Watertown scored three runs in the bottom half of the seventh to close out the Tanager softball season.

They finished the season with an 8-3 record and received a plaque for the third place finish.
