Tanagers compete at Region 1A golf tourney by Jim Prosser On Monday, Sept. 27 the Vermillion boys' golf team placed third with a score of 337 in the Region 1A Tournament at the Valley View Country Club in Sisseton.
Madison was first at 312 with Milbank second at 330. Madison golfers took the top three spots, with Tanager Chris Moen (80) placing fourth. Brad Schaack, with an 82, was in the top 10 at eighth, and Alex Schaack (84) placed 12th.
Broc Gauer (92) and Jordan Boots (93) completed the Tanager squad, which qualified them for the state tournament to be held at The Bluffs in Vermillion on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 4-5.
Coach Kirk Hogen was happy for the team getting to state, but he had some comments about their performances in the past few tournaments this season.
"We seem to have fallen into the trap of trying to settle for second place in several instances and have not always played as well as we're capable," he said. "Some distractions, loss of concentration, or course management has affected scoring for each of the team members at one time or another. I'm looking forward to the state tournament as a chance for the fellas to vindicate themselves with their well-prepared talents and definite goals to perform at their best level in competition."
