United Way begins fund-raising campaign You Matter! is the theme for the 2005 United Way of Vermillion fund-raising campaign that is currently under way. As each campaign begins we encourage everyone in the community to open their hearts to others.
Local volunteers are leading the effort to conduct this organized, responsive fund-raising campaign. United Way of Vermillion's goal for 2005 is $85,000, which is a 3.6% increase from the 2004 campaign. All money raised is used right here in the Vermillion community. This year the United Way of Vermillion Board of Directors has carefully reviewed the funding and needs requests of local agencies based on present and emerging needs.
Campaign 2005 donations will assist the following Vermillion agencies: Clay County Ambulance Association; Lutheran Social Services Mental Health Counseling; Home Care Services: Hospice and Visiting Nurses: Dakota Seniors "Meal on Wheels"; Senior Citizens Center; Welcome Table; Center for Children and Families; Vucurevich Children's Center; Vermillion
Area Arts Council; W.H. Over Museum; Leadership Vermillion; Lutheran Social Services Consumer Credit Counseling; Red Cross Swimming Lessons; Sioux Council Boy Scouts of America; Sioux Trails Girl Scouts Council; Clay County Child Protection Services; Vermillion Girls Softball Association; Vermillion Boxing Team; Imagination Library; Vermillion Coalition Against Domestic Violence; Vermillion Special Olympics; Prairie Freedom Center for Independent Living; Salvation Army; Vermillion Public Transit and Vermillion Red Cross Disaster Response.
The fund-raiser, begun in September, is an all-volunteer effort that runs through January. This year we are asking for more volunteers to canvas our friends in the Vermillion Community. If you or your group would like to donate a small portion of your time to support our campaign please join us Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. or Saturday, Oct. 23 at 8:30 a.m. in the Heritage room at the USD Foundation (across from the Dome) for "Rally Volunteers for Campaign 2005." This event is a 30 minute motivational and information gathering session presented by the United Way Board of Directors.
