VHS frosh football team tops Lennox freshmen by Jim Prosser The weather was perfect for football on Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Lennox High School football field, and the Tanager freshman team made good use of the situation by defeating Lennox 18-6.
Scoring summary includes 12 points in quarter #1; 6 second quarter points for the Tanagers; and 6 fourth quarter Lennox points. Vermillion racked up over 300 yards, holding Lennox to less than 150.
"We dominated the first half, moving the ball and executing offensively," said coach Jason Huska. "On defense, we did a great job of taking care of individual responsibilities. The second half was a different story as we didn't play as aggressively, and let them back in the game. We have to learn how to keep our concentration for the whole game. All in all, it was a good win and, equally a good lesson for our kids."
Offensive stats: Jarrod Freidel � 103 yards on 14 carries, 5-yard TD run; Luke Heine � 85 yards, 11 carries; Reid Meierkort � 6 for 13 passing for 125 yards, 2 TDs (1 rushing, 1 passing); Jackson Freidel � 3 receptions for 107 total yards, 1 TD.
Individual defense results: Ryan Husby � 9 tackles; Jerrod Freidel and Heine � 7 Ts each; Cody Miller, Jackson Freidel, and Meierkort � 5 Ts each. Miller, Matt Nelson, and Heine, each recovered a fumble, and Meierkort intercepted two passes returning them for a total 50 yards.
