Volleyball team salvages five-game match vs. EP/J by Jim Prosser On Monday, Oct. 12, the Tanager varsity salvaged a five-game volleyball match against Elk Point/Jefferson 25-22, 24-26, 23-25, 25-20, and 15-13 at the EP-J HS gym.

"There were some bad breaks but the women in red prevailed," said coach Lenni Billberg. "Come back efforts in games 1 through 4 and a final push in game 5 gives the team their second win over the Huskies. Coming up big were defensive specialists Ariel Hofman (10 digs, 15 passes, 29 pass points) and Brittany Campbell (11 pass points, 7 digs, 2 service points). Our continually strong blocking garnered the day."

Other significant stats for individual members were: Melissa Olson � 25 A, 6 K, 5 B, 13 pos, 1 ace; Ellen Odson � 21 SA, 30 pos, 5 aces; Britt Weydert � 13 P, 2 D, 16 pos; Michelle Olson � 10 P, 26 A, 7 K, 2 B, 4 D, 18 pos; Annie Carlson � 20 P, 32 A, 8 K, 3 B, 10 D, 13 pos. The team season record is 9-6, winning five in a row.

The JV team fought back after a slow start and beat EP/J in two games, 25-20, 25-18. Leading offensively with 6 kills was Paige Prosser. Serving � Kinsey Weydert with 4 aces, she also had 17 set assists; Defensively Ariel Hofman led with 9 digs. Coach Jerred said "We are doing better on offense, but still need to improve defensively."
