Wakonda cross country defends title by Amber Skjonsberg The Wakonda Cross Country boys' team defended its Tri-Valley Conference Title and won the Viborg Invitational in one meet.
Not only did the boys bring home first place on Oct. 6 for the TVC, they came back with a perfect score of 6. They also had a team score of 11 in the Viborg results.
Robert Gregoire placed first with a time of 16:46.03 making this his new personal best. This is Gregoire's second year winning the TVC.
Senior Eric Skonhovd placed second in the TVC and fourth in the Viborg Invite.
Bo Martz ran his personal best with a time of 17:50.12. He managed third in the TVC and seventh in the Viborg meet. Since the top three runners from Wakonda placed in the top three spots, a perfect score of six was earned.
Also running in the meet for Wakonda boys' varsity were Tyler Knudson and Chris Nelsen. Nelsen also reached his personal best with a time of 24:02.68.
Katie Sokolowski placed third for the girls' varsity for the TVC and 11th for the Viborg Invite. Although Sokolowski was sick the day before the meet she also reached a new personal best with a time of 17:45.95.
The TVC and Viborg Invite Championship hardware can be positioned right next to the boys' team's previous first place award they won at the Marion Invite.
The Wakonda boys' varsity team placed first with a score of 14 on Sept. 29.
Junior Robert Gregoire led the Warriors with a time of 16:17 beating the second place runner from Parker by 15 seconds.
With a time of 17:06, Eric Skonhovd placed fourth and sophomore Bo Martz placed tenth. Also running for the boys' varsity team was junior Tyler Knudson.
Katie Sokolowski placed 12th out of 49 runners in the girls' division with a time of 16:04.
Placing 28th in the boys' junior varsity run was freshman Chris Nelsen.
With a total of five first places, the Wakonda Cross Country team seems to be on their way to state again this year. Congratulations.
