American Legion Auxiliary honors veterans The Wakonda American Legion Auxiliary thanks the community of Wakonda for supporting the collection boxes in town with items to be sent to Iraq. Six boxes weighing about 10 pounds each were sent to soldiers of various families and friends.
It will now take about two weeks for the boxes to make their way to Iraq and should arrive before Thanksgiving.
The Legion Auxiliary also hosted a Veterans Day program and lunch for the residents of the Wakonda Heritage Manor. On Nov. 10 the auxiliary entertained the residents in song and with various readings honoring the veterans.
At its regular meeting, the auxiliary packed the boxes to mail to Iraq and discussed the results of its Santa Shack participation where the group sold pie, desserts and tea.
The auxiliary's next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Manor on Sunday, Dec. 5 to meet and travel together on a mystery trip! Anyone who wants to go should let Ruth or Donna know, as it should be a "fun and food" time.
On Dec. 11 at 10 a.m., we will meet at the Manor to pack our Christmas boxes for shut-ins.
See you all at our next meeting.
