Blood bank needs donors during holiday The Siouxland Community Blood Bank's holiday blood donor campaign the "Twelve Days of Christmas," will run through Dec. 31 and is designed to boost blood donations during the month of December.
The purpose of the program is to involve community churches in promoting donations during the busy holiday season. The goal is to increase blood donations during the month of December and bring awareness for the need to constantly replenish blood inventories in local communities.
"The demand for blood donations especially during the holidays remains great as patients in 32 area hospitals have ongoing needs, the potential for accidents increases with holiday travel," said Janette Twait, CEO. "We are asking for volunteers to donate blood to ensure a readily available community blood supply. Your donation may help a friend, a family member or a neighbor."
The next opportunity to donate in Newcastle, NE, is Friday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Peter's Parish Hall.
To be eligible to donate blood, individuals must be at least 17 years old; however there is no upper age limit as long as the donor is in good health. In addition donors need to weigh over 110 pounds and have not donated whole blood in the past 56 days. A photo I.D. is required at the time of registration.
