Junior high girls' BB begins season On Oct. 31, the Irene-Wakonda Eagles junior high girls basketball team opened the season at the Wagner Invitational. The young Eagles took second place in a field of eight teams.
In the first round, the Eagles beat Parkston 28-10. In the semi-final game Irene-Wakonda beat Wagner 26-16. In the championship game Avon beat the Eagles by a close score of 31-30.
On Nov. 4, the girls traveled to Parker for a one game showdown with the Pheasants. The Eagles bagged their limit beating Parker 39-8 for an easy win.
On Monday Nov 8, the young Eagles took the short trip to Viborg to play the Vikings. Viborg came out on top 36-28. However, on Saturday, Nov. 13, the Eagles would get a chance for revenge. Again with the short trip to Viborg along with some defensive adjustments and better shooting the Eagles came out on top beating Viborg 36-33.
The junior high girls now have a record of four wins and two losses. Members include: Kelli Johnston, Melanie Kathol, Brittney Bakke, Casey Hessman, Nicole Nielsen, Kayla Guether, Kayla Ridgway, Megan Book, Jennifer Devine, Lacey Jensen and Brittney Schroeder. Coach Rocky Johnston.
