Olmstead appointed to new role Dr. Karen Olmstead has been appointed to the position of associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of graduate education at The University of South Dakota.
Olmstead will oversee all aspects of graduate education and provide guidance to the university in retention and signature programs. Olmstead's experience as professor of biology and director of the Honors and IdEA programs will provide excellent background for her new position.
"As is becoming increasingly apparent, research and graduate education are essential to the economic growth of South Dakota," said Olmstead.�"I am very enthusiastic about the role I can play as graduate dean in promoting graduate education on campus and throughout the state."
Olmstead came to USD in 1991 to join the biology department. Her most recent research project is monitoring prairie restoration at Spirit Mound Historic Prairie.
