Players named to Academic All-district VII team Tim Schellhammer and Chris Mikkelsen, both members of the 16th-ranked South Dakota football team, have been named to the College Division Academic All-District VII Team as selected by CoSIDA and announced on Thursday, Nov. 11.
Schellhammer was named to the first-team defense on the College Division Academic All-District VII Team. With the first team selection, Schellhammer will advance to the national ballot with the Academic All-America team scheduled to be named on Dec. 1.
A senior defensive end from Chatfield, MN, Schellhammer owns a 3.552 grade point average in mathematics education. He has recorded 59 tackles (29 solo), including 14 tackles-for-loss, and 11.0 quarterback sacks with his sacks total ranking 12th in the nation and second in the league.
He was named NCC Defensive Player of the Week against Augustana, when he had a career-best four quarterback sacks. Schellhammer is a two-time Academic All-NCC selection and twice earned honorable mention All-NCC. In his career he registered 170 career tackles (89 solo), including 35.0 tackles-for-loss, 22 QB sacks and six forced fumbles.
Mikkelsen, a senior from Gregory, was selected to the second team offense on the All-District VII team. Mikkelsen has a 3.259 grade point average in biology.
, earlier was named to the NCC Academic All-NCC squad for the third straight season.
He concluded his career with a school-record 150 catches for 2,279 yards and 15 TDs. He finished the 2004 season with 46 catches for 632 yards and six TDs. His receptions total in 2004 ranks as the fourth-best total in a season in school history. Mikkelsen also finished his career fourth on the USD career all-purpose chart with 3,407 yards (50 yards rushing, 2,279 yards receiving, 428 punt return yards, 660 kickoff return yards). He also finished his career ninth (428 yards) on the career punt return list and eighth (660 yards) on the career kickoff return list.
