USD Coyotes record 3-2 volleyball win over St. Cloud State; finish second in NCC The South Dakota women's volleyball team (17-13, 9-3 NCC) picked up a 3-2 (29-31, 30-25, 24-30, 30-28, 15-13) victory over St. Cloud State (19-11, 7-5 NCC) in their final match of the 2004 regular season in St. Cloud, MN.
With the victory, not only do the Coyotes avenge their, 3-2, Nov. 5 loss to the Huskies in the DakotaDome, but they finish second in the North Central Conference with a school record nine conference wins. Their previous best was set last season, when they won eight conference matches and tied for fourth place.
In addition to their nine conference wins, USD records their second-straight winning season. Prior to last season, the Coyotes last had an above .500 record in 1979 when they went 16-11.
Neither team hit well, but St. Cloud State took the advantage .110 to .095. The Huskies recorded 72 kills to just 54 for the Coyotes, but it was 47 hitting errors by St. Cloud State that propelled USD to the win.
Junior Kristen Miller (Papillion, NE) had 15 kills and 23 digs to pace the Coyotes, while senior Lindsey Soukup (Lincoln, NE) had 12 kills and 21 digs.
Coyotes setter Liz Selzer (Papillion, NE) had 49 assists and 15 digs. She also had a team-high three aces.
Libero Lacey Ross (Omaha, NE) contributed with 17 digs.
