I.D. Weeks Library gains CRL membership I.D. Weeks Library has been accepted for associate membership in the Center for Research Libraries (CRL).
CRL is a consortium of North American universities, colleges, and independent research libraries. The consortium acquires and preserves traditional and digital resources for research and teaching and makes them available to member institutions through interlibrary loan and electronic delivery.
Fourteen new members have joined the CRL this fall and The University of South Dakota is among that list. USD is currently the only institution in South Dakota with CRL membership. The membership organization is a rich and diverse warehouse of almost four million rarely-held books, journals, pamphlets, newspapers and other primary source materials from all regions of the globe.
The CRL membership provides faculty and students access to research items emphasizing primary records that impact the humanities, social sciences and sciences.
"CRL membership emphasizes and reinforces the university's leadership role in the liberal arts," said David Hulkonen, director of libraries.�
Membership allows unlimited access to the online resources and documents held by CRL. Most transactions are accomplished through Web searching followed by expedited interlibrary loan of research materials. If required, USD faculty or students can, by reservation, use the CRL facility in person in Chicago.
