January is national blood donor month The Siouxland Community Blood Bank announces that January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. This annual, month-long observance provides the Siouxland Community Blood Bank an opportunity to pay tribute to past and present blood donors, and to extend an invitation to donate blood.
The Siouxland Community Blood Bank counts on community members to help prepare for the blood needs of tomorrow by encouraging volunteer blood donations.
The seasons continue to change, but one thing remains the same, the need for blood, said Janette Twait, CEO. Theres no better time to donate than National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. Donating blood saves lives and without the generosity and commitment of donors, there simply would not be enough blood for many patients, said Janette Twait.
To be eligible to donate blood individuals must be at least 17 years of age; however there is no upper age limit as long as the donor is in good health. In addition donors need to weigh over 110 pounds and have not donated whole blood in the past 56 days.
