Tanager JV nips the Cardinals 50-49 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers rallied to nip the South Sioux City, NE Cardinals 50-49 in boys� basketball Dec. 13 at home.
The Vermillion JV had trailed by two at halftime.
�We played well overall,� said Vermillion JV coach Jon Reuvers. �It took us a while to get started, and we battled until the end. We had good group contributions from top to bottom.�
Vermillion carried the game from long range, making 7 of 10 three pointers to 2 of 6 for South Sioux City.
The Tanagers trailed 15-12 at the end of the first period, trailed 28-26 at halftime, and the contest was deadlocked 42-42 after the third quarter.
Vermillion improved its record to 3-1, while South Sioux City dropped to 4-2.
Vermillion sank 5 of 8 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 18 of 35 field goals, while South Sioux City was 23 of 39 from the field. The Cardinals connected on 1 of 6 free throws.
