Tanagers easily defeat Alcester 57-17 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion varsity Tanagers demolished the Alcester Cubs 57-17 in girls basketball Dec. 14 at Alcester. The Tanagers shot an impressive 56 percent from the field for the game.
Our girls really did a pretty nice job tonight, said Vermillion coach Jamie Parish. We didnt ease into the game but started out attacking right away and causing some turnovers. The offensive balance was very nice to see with everyone moving and sharing the ball.
Defensively, we were quite pleased; the girls were doing fundamental things correctly and working hard at getting better. Defense is going to be a key for us all year long; we play a very good defense on individual possessions but we do not always put together two or three great possessions in a row, especially late in the game. That consistency will be a key in determining our success. Our kids are so positive right now its an absolute pleasure to work with them on a daily basis.
The Tanagers picked up the victory in spite of committing 22 turnovers.
