Tanagers' hot play brings a 38-36 win by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers squeaked past the Lennox Orioles 38-36 in boys� basketball Dec. 14 at home in a matchup that was close throughout.
�We played with heart from start to finish,� said Vermillion JV coach Jon Reuvers. �This team showed me what I knew they could do, and that was to perform at a high level.�
The Tanagers heated things up from three-point range, hitting 5 of 8 from long distance.
The Tanagers fell behind 12-10 at the end of the first period, led 15-14 at halftime, and then held a lead of 26-23 after the third period.
The Vermillion JV now has a record of 2-1.
Vermillion made 9 of 14 from the line. The Tanagers sank 12 of 32 field goals, while Lennox was 13 of 35 from the field. The Orioles connected on 10 of 19 free throw attempts.
The winners needed good efforts from several performers.
�Jordan Boots stepped up big in clutch moments,� coach Reuvers said. �The bench play was outstanding.�
