Tanagers review season, receive year-end awards by Jim Prosser As we wind down our interest in high school football, those who enjoy the statistics of the game will appreciate the following team and leading individual results from the 2004 season.

Key individual offensive statistics:

Passing � Kyle Brunick, 12 of 31 for 224 yards and 5 TDs; Ben Oberle, 7 of 23 for 121 yards.

Receiving: Oberle, 8 for 180 yards and 3 TDs; Sean Pederson, 7 for 99 yards and 2 TDs.

Rushing: Jordan Anderson, 712 yards on 120 attempts and 8 TDs; Oberle, 526 yards on 122 carries with 3 TDs; Cody Hayes, 525 yards on 115 carries with 6 TDs.

Kicking: Pederson, 29 with 50 yard avg.

Punting: Pederson, 26 with 34 yard avg.

Kick returns: Sam Laprath � 8 for 148 yards (18.5 avg.); Anderson, 5 for 55 yards (11 avg.); and Cody Hayes, 3 for 76 yards (25 avg.).

Punt returns: Andrew Pier 12 for 108 yards (9 avg.).

Defensive stats:

Fumble recoveries � Tony Kronaizl, 3.

Pass interceptions � Pier and Oberle, 6 each.

Tackles � Anderson, 93 (1 QB sack); Pederson, 80 (9 sacks); Hubert, 66 (6 pass Ks); Kronaizl, 65; Stewart � 56 (1 QB sack); Pier, 41 (10 pass Ks).

The end of the season brings the time for recognizing achievements of team members. These include:

Big 8 All-Conference selections � Jordan Anderson, Tyler Anglin, Sean Pederson, and Donny Stewart; honorable mention � Mike Hanson and Cody Hayes.

SDFBCA Class 11A Academic All-State � Jordan Anderson, Jacob Geis, Kyle Mollet and student manager Alan Bos.

SDFBCA All-State (11A) � Ben Oberle (defensive back), Sean Pederson (defensive end), and Donny Stewart (defensive tackle).

Perhaps the most coveted recognitions are those selected by your peers. The individual team awards are:

Most valuable player � Pederson;

Most improved player � Andrew Pier;

Outstanding offensive back � Anderson;

Outstanding receiver � Oberle;

Outstanding offensive lineman � Stewart;

Outstanding defensive lineman � Pederson;

Outstanding defensive back � Kyle Hubert;

Outstanding linebacker � Anderson;

Outstanding special teams player � Pederson.

Team co-captains � Anderson and Pederson.

The final awards will be the Sioux Falls Argus Leader Elite 45 and selections for the North-South All Star Game to be played next August. These will be announced at a later date, and should include some Tanagers.
