Track, field teams start season at Derek Miles Invitational The South Dakota men's and women's teams began the 2004-05 indoor track and field season in the DakotaDome at the Derek Miles Early Season Open Dec. 9.
The Coyote men's team was paced by a pair of first-place finishes by sophomore Derek Gearman (Lennox) in the high jump (6-8) and long jump (6.80 meters).
South Dakota's Terry Liggins (Omaha, NE) won the 60-meter hurdles in :08.18.
The Coyotes also took home medalist honors in the distance medly relay in a time of 10:35.70.
On the women's side, USD's Marci Miller (Rapid City) won the pole vault by clearing 12'03, beating the competition by over one foot, while Kassy Laber won (Parkston) the 800 in 2:19.84.
The South Dakota women won the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:56.79.
The Coyotes' next outing will be the Bill Hillenbrand Invitational at the DakotaDome, Jan. 14-15.
