Vermillion girls' JV gets first season win by Jim Prosser The Vermillion girls� junior varsity Tanagers downed the Alcester Cubs 35-31 in girls� basketball Dec. 14 at Alcester. The Tanagers shot 50 percent from the field for the game.

This game was the first win for the Tanagers. Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 1-2, while Alcester fell to 0-3.

Brittni Stewart had a strong performance with 10 boards and eight points. She�s coming back after an injury.

The Tanagers led 9-1 after the first quarter, led 15-6 at halftime, and then led 29-21 after the third quarter.

�We saw a definite improvement in the team�s commitment,� said Vermillion JV coach Lenni Billberg.

Vermillion made 1 of 4 three-pointers and made 8 of 15 from the line. The Tanagers sank 18 of 36 field goal attempts, while Alcester was 14 of 36 from the field. Alcester sank 0 of 5 three-point attempts and connected on 3 of 14 from the line.

The Tanagers had several important contributors in the close win.

�Alexa Walker scored eight points; Alicia Brown contributed 11 points and made five steals in two quarters of play,� coach Billberg said.
