VHS boys' basketball team looks to rebuild this season by Jim Prosser Having lost the entire starting five from last year, the 2004 -'05 season becomes a quick rebuilding situation for coach Jason Huska's Tanager boys' basketball team.
The good news is that he has seven returning seniors to fill the void. The bad news is they all had sparing minutes in the varsity games, or were on the JV team.
The complete roster includes: seniors Chad and Chris Teigen, Ben Oberle, Kyle Mollet, Matt Preszler, Jason Donald, and Steve Foltz; and juniors Andrew Pier, Kyle Brunick, and Mike Preszler. Coach Huska is assisted by Jon Reuvers and Eric VanLaecken.
The first game of the new season will be at home against Harrisburg with a triple header (freshmen, JV, varsity) starting at 5 p.m. They also play in the EP-J Classic on Saturday, Dec. 11. (Time TBA)
"A key to success for our season is the need to shoot well from the outside," Huska said. "We have the personnel to do it, we just need consistency in the result. Also, our quickness will be an advantage, if we can create turnovers and turn them into points.
"I expect this to be one of the most competitive schedules since I took over here four years ago," he added. "I expect many close games. We need some game experience fast from the returning players from last year."
