VHS gymnasts place third at Wagner Invite by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanager gymnastics team placed third in the Wagner Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11, scoring 119.3 points.
The tournament consisted of seven schools from diverse locations in South Dakota with team total scores determined by the sum of four individual scores in each of the four competitive events.
Madison had the highest total score of 139.06 for first place; Wagner was second, Winner, fourth; Stanley County, fifth; Chamberlain, sixth and West Central, seventh.
The Vermillion participants� scores in each event are:
Bars: Rachel Lorenz, 7.7, Tristen Upward, 4.7, Emily Renner, 7.3, Calle Sorensen, 6.55, Ariel Hofman, 8.0 (seventh), Sarah Christopherson, 8.2 (third).
Beam: Heather Zimmerman, 3.4, Upward, 6.6, Renner, 5.5, Hofman, 7.2, Christopherson, 7.8.
Floor: Tia Krier, 5.9, Lorenz, 7.2, Upward, 6.9, Hofman, 8.65 (third), Christopherson, 8.25 (fifth).
Vault: Zimmerman, 6.35, Upward, 6.5, Hofman, 8.6 (third), Christopherson, 8.55 (fourth).
AA: Renner, 24.7, Hofman, 32.45 (sixth), Christopherson, 32.8 (fourth).
�We had a great meet on three of the four events. Beam really let us down,� said coach Mark Upward. �We had 10 falls on beam that counted for a total loss of five points from our team score.�
The next action for the Tanagers will be the Winter Wonderland Invite at VHS, Dec. 28, at 11:30 a.m.
