Coyote men roll over Augie, 93-70 USD pounded Augustana on the boards by grabbing 47 rebounds to the Vikings' 24. The South Dakota men's basketball team (14-1, 1-0 NCC) picked up a 93-70 win over the Augustana Vikings (7-10, 0-2 NCC) in its North Central Conference opener in front of 3,933 in attendance at the DakotaDome.
Senior Josh Mueller led the Coyotes with 27 points, his second highest point total of the season, as USD got off to a fast start and never trailed in the game. All seven of Mueller's 14 field goals were 3-pointers, including the first two baskets of the game, which gave USD a quick 6-0 lead at the 18:50 mark.
The Coyotes continued their tear and grabbed 8-0 lead before the Vikings scored a lay-up by Mike Klepatz at 16:42, to make it a 6-point game, 8-2. It was the closest Augustana would be as USD went on to lead by 26, 55-29 at halftime.
The second half was more of the same, as the Coyotes kept their lead around 25 the entire half and finished with a 23-point margin.
USD shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field, but used 44.1 percent (15-of-34) shooting from beyond the 3-point arc to fuel its leads. The Coyotes were a perfect 22-of-22 from the free throw line until missing a pair with 27 seconds left in the game to finish at 91.7 percent (22-of-24), their highest percentage of the season.
Junior Turner Trofholz recorded the ninth double-double of his career as he scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while David Nour and Dustin Little each finished with 14 points to round out the Coyotes in double figures. In addition to his 27 points, Mueller also added seven rebounds and four assists, while senior Steve Anderson picked up 4 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 33 minutes of action.

Augustana, as a team, shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the field, but made just 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from 3-point land. At the free throw stripe, they converted 73.7 percent (14-of-19) of their attempts.
Tom VerDouw led the Vikings with 13 points, while Klepatz and Excell Hardy each added 12. Hardy and Nick Olson had the team-high in rebounds with four each.
The Coyote basketball team will be in action again in one week when they travel to Grand Forks, ND, where they will square off against North Dakota in the Ralph Englesgtad Arena at 8 p.m.
