Edward Jones team takes 5th in tourney Area teams competed in the Midwest Youth Boys' Basketball Tournament Dec. 11-12 at the Dakota-Dome.
The seventh-grade Verm- illion team placed fifth in the B division, which totaled eight teams. The Vermillion team is sponsored by Edward Jones and coached by Curt Robinson and Kent Andre. ����
In their opening game against the Sioux Falls Farley, Vermillion lost a heart breaker 36-34. They came out hot early in the game doing well against a full court press, and executing the half-court trap defense. They led at half time by 10 points, only to face a cold streak in the second half, allowing the Sioux Falls team an opening to come back. �
Scoring was led by Kylan Freidel with 16 points. Garrett Smith-Keller and Jordan Robinson each had 6 points. �Smith-Keller pulled down nine boards and Cole Andre captured four steals. �
In the second game the Edward Jones team took control of the Centerville seventh graders early on and defeated them 72-37. Everyone on the team contributed to the scoring effort.�Smith-Keller led the team with 22 points, closely followed by Andre with 20 points. Robinson led rebounding with 12 boards, Nick Anglin added eight, Tim Tigert and Andre each had six.�Freidel dished out seven assists and Robinson had four takeaways. �
In game three, an evenly matched Yankton Gappers team battled to the end, but when the smoke cleared the Edward Jones team was victorious, 39-32.
Freidel led scoring with 13 points, and Andre and Smith-Keller each added 9 points.
Smith-Keller led the rebounding efforts with nine boards, closely followed by Robinson with seven and Aaron Steele with three.�Andre had seven assists.
Coach Robinson was pleased with the team's performance.�The boys gained valuable experience in some pressure situations. Every-one worked well as a team and contributed to the outcome.
