Huskies top Vermillion girls' JV 38-33 By Jim Prosser The Vermillion girls� junior varsity Tanagers lost a second-half lead and were topped by the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 38-33 in girls� basketball Jan. 18 at Elk Point-Jefferson.
Vermillion JV had led by one at halftime.
Anna Isaacson really led the team with a strong effort offensively, scoring eight points, and defensively with two steals.
The Tanagers trailed 9-8 at the end of the first period, led 19-18 at halftime, and then trailed 30-21 going into the fourth quarter.
�A strong fourth quarter was not enough to bring the girls to victory,� said Vermillion JV coach Lenni Billberg.
The loss dropped Vermillion JV to a record of 2-4, while Elk Point-Jefferson improved to 6-3.
Vermillion connected on 2 of 4 three-point tries and made 3 of 11 free throw tries. The Tanagers made 14 of 32 field goals, while Elk Point-Jefferson was 15 of 34 from the field. Elk Point-Jefferson hit 2 of 6 three-point tries and connected on 6 of 12 free throw tries.
Even with the loss, the Tanagers had several good individual efforts.
�Annika Sjolie had another strong performance,� coach Billberg said. �Kristina Blythe played her best defense of the year. Chelsea Gauer had a breakout offensive night with 10 points.�
