PTA receives check from General Mills The Vermillion Parent Teacher Assocation recently received a check from General Mills for $1,870.41 after two years of collecting box tops through the company's "Box Tops for Education" program. The Box Tops are worth 10 cents each and appear on the company's products, such as cereal, Green Giant vegetables, Pillsbury products and Betty Crocker cake mixes.
The PTA and the school district will use the money to buy books for the Unplugged Program at Austin Elementary School, which sends books home each night with students in kindergarten through second grade, and to provide Accelerated Reader Rewards for students at Jolley Elementary.
The Vermillion PTA has placed collection bins at Hy-Vee and Jones' Food Center to encourage the community to help support this program. General Mills will donate up to $20,000 per year to a school for collecting box tops from General Mills products.
