After the first nine matches in VHS bowling history, the high school bowlers are heading down the homestretch of their first full season of bowling, culiminating with the state tournament on Feb. 25-26.
The boys (2-7) and girls (0-9) have had some rough competition so far this year but hope to turn things around in the next five weeks with three home matches on Jan. 28, Feb. 11 and Feb. 18, and two more away matches.
In the seven-team league that includes the four Sioux Falls schools, Brandon, Brookings and Beresford, the Tanagers find themselves in seventh place (boys) and eighth place (girls). While both squads are having a tough time in the win column, they have continued to improve and are looking forward to ending the season strong.
The boys are led in average by sophomores Tyler Annis, who after 26 games is averaging 197 and Tyler Thedorff who has a 178 after 17 games.
Brittany Campbell leads the girls with a 149 average, followed closely by Shannon Robinet with a 145 average score.
The VHS season stats are listed below. Bowlers marked with an asterisk are first-time bowlers.
Thanks to all the fans and support given to the bowlers in their first year.
