Tanager freshmen topped 36-22 by EP-J By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were topped by the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 36-22 in boys� basketball Jan. 18 at Elk Point as the winners held the lead after each quarter.

Jordan Merrigan scored six points and Ryan Husby showed good defense with three rebounds.

The Tanagers trailed 13-5 at the end of the first period, trailed 17-12 after the second quarter, and then trailed 29-18 after the third period.

�We showed a better effort on both ends of the court,� said Vermillion freshmen coach Eric VanLaecken.

The loss dropped Vermillion�s freshmen to a record of 1-4, while EP-J improved to 4-1.

Vermillion sank 0 of 3 three-pointers and sank 2 of 5 free throw attempts. The Tanagers hit 10 of 31 field goals, while EP-J was 14 of 39 from the field. EP-J connected on 2 of 6 three-point tries and sank 6 of 9 free throw tries.
