Tanagers battle, but lose to Pierce By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers lost a tough one to the Pierce, NE Cardinals 63-60 in boys� basketball Jan. 11 at Pierce, NE.
�We started slow and battled back to have a chance at the end,� said Vermillion JV coach Jon Reuvers. �We learned a lot and hopefully will apply these lessons learned for future contests.�
The Tanagers jumped in front 21-17 after the first quarter, trailed 36-32 at halftime, and then trailed 52-48 after the third quarter.
Vermillion saw its record fall to 3-2, while Pierce upped its mark to 4-1.
Vermillion made 6 of 14 free throw tries while the Cardinals connected on 7 of 9 free throw tries.
