Tanagers pull away to beat the Trojans By Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the last stanza to defeat the Parkston Trojans 43-36 in boys� basketball Jan. 7 at home.
The game had been tied 25-all heading into the final quarter.
Jeff Donnelly scored 14 points, pulled down five rebounds, made five steals and four blocks.
The Tanagers jumped in front 13-8 after the first quarter, led 20-17 after the second period, and the score was 25-all after the third period.
�We pulled out a victory despite not playing up to our normal levels,� said Vermillion JV coach Jon Reuvers. �The kids are still learning and work hard to be better.�
Vermillion improved its record to 5-1, while Parkston dropped to 3-3.
Vermillion hit 1 of 7 three-point attempts and connected on 8 of 10 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 17 of 47 field goals, while Parkston was 15 of 42 from the field. Parkston hit 2 of 9 three-point tries and sank 4 of 8 from the line.
